Give a short event a clear process, from the first project submission to the final ranking.

The problem

The voting rules had to match the event's criteria, prevent self-voting and stay understandable to participants. Submission and judging also needed to be ready on a tight timeline.

My part

Solo product and implementation work for an internal event platform.

What this shows

I can identify the essential workflow for a deadline and deliver it with the rules that make its results credible.

Where it started

Vibethon supports an internal hackathon with a short demo window and a published judging method. Participants need one place for project information, videos and votes.

The decisions behind the product

Keep the demo and its context together

Each project page includes the problem, solution, team, links and media. Inline video makes it possible to review the work before scoring it.

Turn judging rules into product behavior

Participants score five criteria and can revise their vote. The leaderboard applies the published weights, and the system excludes votes on a participant's own project.

Finish the event workflow

I added company-account sign-in, upload handling and admin controls. A later security pass tightened redirects, embeds, ownership and validation.

What came out of the work

A used event platform

The checked leaderboard contained 11 projects and 38 votes, with each vote covering all five judging criteria.

A tightly scoped first build

The scaffold, voting and admin commits landed on one calendar day. This is an elapsed build milestone, not a count of working hours.

  • Six complete calendar months: 1 April to 30 September 2026. Current is September; comparison baseline is April. Both comparison months have 30 days. This is not a comparison against the preceding six months.
  • Final web-search data, all countries and devices, America/Los_Angeles reporting timezone. Search clicks are not website visits or unique visitors.
  • Domain properties include all subdomains with property aggregation. Documentation pages retain exact page filters from the preceding evidence collection and measure documentation interest, not adoption.
  • Monthly chart values and the six-month total are reconciled with independently queried totals.
  • The percentage, where shown, compares September 2026 with April 2026, the last and first complete months of this window.
  • April has fewer than 100 events, so absolute counts are shown without a percentage growth claim.
  • For fewer than 100 events in the baseline period, the comparison shows absolute counts instead of a percentage.

Inside the implementation

Explore the features, architecture and quality checks

What I built

  • Project submissions: name, the problem it solves, the solution, team, demo and repo links, plus screenshot and video uploads with a progress bar
  • Demo videos play inline on each project page, Loom links included
  • Voting: a signed-in colleague scores a project from 1 to 5 on each of five criteria, can change the vote later, and cannot vote on their own project
  • A leaderboard that averages each criterion and applies the published weights of 30%, 25%, 20%, 15% and 10%
  • An info page with the theme, the schedule, the judging criteria, a starter kit of nine tools and seven pro tips
  • Google sign-in with the company domain as a hint, a server-side domain check in the auth callback, and admin-only project deletion

How it works

  1. Sign inGoogle sign-in with the company domain as a hint. The auth callback signs out any other domain and shows an unauthorized page.
  2. SubmitA team adds its project: problem, solution, team, demo and repo links, screenshots and a video, uploaded with a progress bar.
  3. Demo45 minutes on the schedule for 3- to 5-minute demos per team, plus Q&A.
  4. VoteColleagues score other teams' projects from 1 to 5 on five criteria. One vote per person per project, editable, never on your own.
  5. RankThe leaderboard averages each criterion, applies the published weights and sorts by the weighted score.

Quality and reliability

  • A February 2026 security pass: open-redirect fix, hardened uploads, sandboxed iframes, input validation and upload ownership checks
  • Scores are checked twice: integers 1 to 5 in the server action, then again by database CHECK constraints and a unique (user, project) key
  • Strict TypeScript
  • Sign-in and auth routes marked noindex, with a sitemap, a robots file and canonical URLs for the public pages
  • Cookieless Umami, with PostHog loaded only after consent
